EMPLOYER: Steele Memorial Medical Center

POSITION: Staff Pharmacist

WHY YOU’LL LOVE IT: Steele Memorial Medical Center (SMMC) is a Critical Access Hospital and Rural Health Clinic located in scenic Salmon, Idaho on the famous “River of No Return.” SMMC has the distinction of being one of the most remote hospitals in the lower 48 states.  Our service area borders the Frank Church Wilderness Area the second largest protected wilderness in the contiguous United States, after Death Valley. This beautiful mountain valley offers unlimited outdoor recreational opportunities such as hiking, mountain biking, hunting, fishing, skiing and white-water rafting. Leave the big city behind and come and join us for an adventure in a small town. A low stress environment with an improved quality of life awaits you.

Salmon is a small rural community of 3,300 residents nestled in the mountains of Central Idaho. The City of Salmon is proud of its rich history that includes strong traditions of mining, lumbering and family ranching. Lewis and Clark crossed the Continental Divide in 1805 into the Salmon Valley during their expedition to the Pacific Ocean and received essential supplies and information from Sacajawea’s people, the AgaiDika Shoshone.

Today, the City of Salmon upholds its reputation as a community tied together through traditional family values and a sense of community. In 2004 the City was recognized as an Idaho Heritage City and Community of Promise by the Association of Idaho Cities and was recently honored as one of the 100 Best Cities for Young People by America’s Promise organization, founded by Collin Powell. In 2006 Lemhi and North Custer County Economic Development received one of four Great Strides Awards from the Northwest Area Foundation.
