Coventry Workers’ Compensation Division is looking for a few good Pharmacists to join our Pharmacy Benefit Management/Drug Utilization Assessment team. Our Pharmacists work in an information-based, business office, multi-tasking environment on a variety of different responsibilities. From being a drug therapy advisor to colleagues and clients, calling physicians with persuasive recommendations for alternate courses of treatment, being a clinical liaison in client implementations and mentoring other team members. These positions work very closely with other departments in the organization, such as; Account Management, Product Development and Reporting to support business needs. This position provides pharmacist expertise in support of utilization management programs that provide drug therapy cost containment while ensuring quality care in pharmacy benefit management for workers’ compensation clients and their injured workers.


  • Current unrestricted state license required.
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited school of pharmacy or PharmD from a accredited school of pharmacy required.
  • Board certification and residency preferred.
  • Previous (1-3 years) clinical experience required. Managed care, medication therapy management and/or pharmacotherapy experience preferred.
  • Strong telephonic communication with providers concerning drug therapy recommendations preferred.
  • Strong drug product and clinical pharmacy knowledge required.
  • Familiar with clinical program components, formulary designs, and prescription benefit trends.


  • Monitors prescribing habits of participating physicians. Makes recommendations to physicians to improve medication regimens as appropriate.
  • Improves quality of service to members by providing prior-authorization of formulary drugs, developing programs to provide optimal pharmacy care to patients, participating in dispute resolution of drug utilization review, measuring and documenting improvements in patient care, and/or improving claim adjudication for proper provider reimbursement.
  • Collaborates with other medical personnel in developing treatment guidelines and demonstrates the impact of these guidelines. Create and maintain preferred drug lists consistent with state workers’ compensation regulations, which also meet client specific requirements.
  • May assist the client with reporting requirements.
  • Develop and maintain a newsletter for various audiences on topics such as drug therapy and pharmacy benefit newsletters and/or bulletins.
  • Performs other duties as required.
